This was my first experience of New York Fashion Week. I attended the PILTZ Fashion event on September 9th and saw shows by up and coming fashion and accessory designers from across the U.S.A.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  1. Designer Jignasha Vashi of Panache by Jia is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She featured rich jewel toned silks from India that illuminated the runway. Her creative mantra is “The Sensitive Touch of the Human Hand, The Meditative Thought of the Weaver”.

2. Talented accessory Designer June McCoy-Reid is the CEO JMR Fashion and is based in Boston Massachusetts. Her designs featured silver, gold, and copper metals and textured fabrics in several colours that were reminiscent of ancient native cultures but with a modern twist.

3. Dee Dee Curtis of Designer’s Palace Courtier is based in Cleveland Ohio and has been designing for many years. The designer  works with sequins and stetchy materials in vivid and metallic colours. Her dresses are perfect for parties or a special evening event.  The designs displayed creativity and originality with Dee Dee’s motto “No Zippers, No Wrinkles and No Buttons”.

4. Designer Pauline Stangl of Nkoumazap Designs combined beautiful traditional handmade African fabrics with modern fresh shapes.  Stangl is based in Oakland California.
