Products With Ginseng

Red Ginseng was discovered 5000 years ago in the Manchurian mountains of China. It was cultivated for use as medicine and a multitude of herbal remedies. Ginseng was also applied on the skin to treat burns, wounds and rashes. The demand for this multi-tasking root quickly spread across Asia and by the 19th century, Ginseng was commercially grown in places as far away as Canada.

I tried Korean Brand I’m From Ginseng Serum for 4 weeks.

Firstly, I was impressed by how little you need to apply. Two drops, using it’s medicine dropper is sufficient for each use and this applicator eliminates wastage.  The scent is very mild and pleasant, you can smell the ginseng extract. Upon application, it absorbs into the skin fairly quickly. I liked that it made my skin feel more supple and gave it plumpness without heaviness or greasiness. Over the 4 weeks I did see improvement to how my skin retained its moisture, especially overnight when my skin tends to dry out.

I would recommend adding this serum after your toner and essence just before your moisturizer for the best results. I now use this in the morning and at night.  Added bonus: this bottle should last 6 months with everyday use; a little goes a long way. I have combination skin with hormonal cystic acne.  This serum can be used on all skin types but really helped to soothe my acne breakouts while reducing redness and inflammation.

So how exactly does red ginseng benefit our skin?

Both the root and the leaves of this Ginseng have a multitude of skin benefits from antioxidants to energy-supporting properties.

In skin care, Ginseng is used as an anti-aging ingredient because it has so many phyto-nutrients, and because it helps to tone and brighten our skin.

Ginseng also helps to counteract dryness; it can help with oily skin as well as sensitive skin because of it’s natural ability to balance oils.

Additional benefits include improving elasticity, rejuvenating tired skin, nourishing parched skin, better absorption and reducing fine lines.

So, what about efficacy? Does Ginseng actually work when applied topically?

Benefits to the skin:

Serums containing ginseng naturally enhance blood circulation to make complexion more fresh and revitalized. They promise to smoothe and improve our skin’s elasticity for that ultimate skin glow.

The Red Ginseng ingredient can also be found in deep pore cleansing masks which is recommended as a once per week routine for dry to normal skin and twice a week for oily/combination skin types. This is a great option if you don’t want a clay mask.

I’m From’s Ginseng Mask is unique because it slightly heats up on you skin upon application. This mask is designed to naturally open up your pores to deeply cleanse while replenishing the necessary nourishments for healthier skin. Easy to rinse off with lukewarm water after 10-15 minutes.

It’s no surprise that the benefits of ginseng has crossed over to the kbeauty skincare market. Ginseng is rich in vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and photo-nutrients. This root is also anti-inflammatory and packed with oxygen magnates.

There are many healthy foods that have made their way into skincare for good reason.  What is good for you on the inside should also be good for you on the outside. Both are key to having good health and radiant skin.
