A Preemptive Strike On Fighting Hormonal Acne

Hormonal Acne can occur in anyone at anytime whether you are a 14 or 49 years old, male or female. The re-occurance of acne in response to hormonal changes can range from mild to severe, usually occurring around the jawline. It’s estimated that 25% of women ages 20 to 29 have acne. It affects about 25% of women ages 40 to 49. I am 51 years of age and still prone to hormonal acne flare ups. Here is what I have learned on how to combat acne before it starts.

Facts:

Another word for acne is comedones. These can be open or closed plugs that form at the base of the hairs under our skin.

Other types of acne include:

  • Papules
  • Pustules
  • Nodules
  • Cysts

These four types evolve in various sizes and severity when in contact with bacteria. Our skin is a battleground for bacteria to grow and harvest, causing an inflammatory response from our immune system. In order to combat hormonal acne we have to strike it down from two fronts – A Low Glycemic Diet and A Targeted Skincare Routine.

A Low Glycemic Diet

Poor digestion/ low quality diet, stress, and lack of good sleep, can all impact our hormonal fluctuations and exacerbate symptoms. Cutting back on sugar, cow’s milk, and fast food and replacing them with more fish, flaxseed oil, green tea, oysters, juicing, nuts and vegetables can make a huge difference. Food supplements such as probiotics, zinc and magnesium can greatly help to balance out our hormonal cycle.

A Targeted Kbeauty Skincare Routine

Try experimenting with your skincare routine by making adjustments and adding products that can keep your skin clear from acne and acne marks while improving elasticity. Allow 4 weeks for each new product to take effect. Ingredients such as Vitamin C, Snail mucin filtrate, Tea Tree, Rose Oil, Rosehip Oil, Tamanu oil, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides are great for treating and keeping acne at bay.
